Step by Step Easy Cartoon Shark Drawing Tutorial
Bring on the sneak!
Step One: A Line in Time
Start with a line.
You thought I was going to say draw a blob right? hehe. WRONG!
Draw a line. 🙂
Step Two: A Wonky Mouth?
You could think of creating a shark-like shape for this step, OR to make it super easy, just think of drawing a big cheesy, kinda wonky grin.
Step Three: Oh There’s the Shark!
It all makes sense once you drop in that tail fin. I went for a straight up and down fin, but you can get fancy with a V shaped fin if you want.
Step Four: Say Cheese!
Ok the big secret for this step is to draw the mouth starting quite a way down from the nose. This gives you more of that ‘Great White Shark’ look because they have rather enormous noses. Go check it out online. You’ll see what I mean.
Step Five: That Iconic Fin
Once you’re happy with the ferocity of your teeth for your cartoon shark drawing, add in that all important dorsal fin. You know, the one that accompanies the ‘Jaws’ sound track everytime a shark is about to attack someone in a movie?
The truth is, this is such a lie. Most sharks hunt from below where their prey can’t see them coming, so you wouldn’t see the shark fin until AFTER you’d been eaten. 😉
Step Six: Bring Your Shark to Life!
Yes! My fave step of all! Drawing the funny features. The eyes really bring our cartoon shark drawing to life! I went for a simple round eye and made him look sneaky with the eyebrows, but you can experiment with different eye shapes and don’t forget to try different eyebrow directions for different emotions.
Don’t Swim With Sharks!!!
Huzzah! We’re done! You know, as much as sharks get a bad rep in movies, they are actually super cool animals.
Most are just curious and would much rather eat fish and squid than human with all that untasty iron in our blood. Yuck!
I’ve been surfing and swimming in the ocean regularly for most of my life (I live right near the beach. It’s my happy place) and I’ve not been attacked or seen a shark upclose and in person.
So, let’s give these amazing creatures the respect they deserve. Respect ie:
If you go out into the ocean into THEIR HOME, then you can’t blame one for getting hungry.
Give them a wide berth if you do happen to see one when you’re out swimming/ surfing/ diving.
Don’t throw nasty chemicals down the drain because these beautiful creatures have to swim in it.
Say ‘no’ to your local government putting up shark nets because they don’t really work and all the beautiful turtles, friendly dolphins and seals also get caught in it and die.) Like I said before, I’ve been in the swimming in the ocean all my life and I’ve never come across a shark.

Cool and Unusual Facts About Sharks
Like always, I enjoy digging up some random facts and tid bits for my drawing tutes. I don’t know why, but my brain likes to store useless information about animals so I find this incredibly enjoyable. If you know any extra facts about sharks that you think we’d all like, share in the comments below!
Sharks are Ridiculously Old. Older than Trees!
Yep, I got this little tid bit from the Australian National Maritime Museum. Apparently species of shark have been around for the last 450 million years!! Trees have only been around for 350 million years which means sharks are waaaay older than even crocodiles which only appeared around 205 million years ago.
Sand Tiger Shark Emryos Eat Eachother in the Womb!
If life in the open ocean wasn’t dangerous enough, these unborn Tiger Sharks can’t get a break! The first embryo to hatch grows the fastest and soon begins to chow down on its smaller brothers and sisters. Then once the main competition is gone the cannibalistic fatty will move onto any eggs it’s mother has left lying around in the womb.
Similarly to Warewolves, Sharks are Affected by the Full Moon!
Oooh! This one is super cool. Ever heard of a wareshark? Sharks growing extra spikes and glowing green eyes to make them the super predator of the ocean during a full moon every month!? Yeah, me either.
What actually happens is some shark species are effected by the full moon (probably the gravity) and descend to deeper depths every month. Maybe there’s a full moon party going on down there?
