A Halloween Flower?
If you look closely, you’ll see that our spooky flower drawing has a MOUTH!
Yep – see the yellow bit on top with the teeth. hehehe. That makes it the perfect Halloween flower to give to that special someone. I mean, who wouldn’t want a flesh eating, brain guzzling flower from the deep?
To be honest, I plucked our flower here from my imagination. I just LOVE drawing weird and wonderful things. So, without any further ado – let’s break down how to draw this dark beauty.

Step by Step Spooky Flower Drawing Tutorial
Onwards with the spookiness!

Step One: An Alien Spacecraft
Ok… so to me this looks an alien spacecraft, am I right? Can you see the middle bit is where the alien sits and the outershell is the hovering ring like you used to see in the old Looney Toons cartoons?
Maybe its just me. It could also be a fried egg on an angle… What does it look like to you? (Psst- Tell me in the comments at the bottom of this post!)

Step Two: Alien Spacecraft Turned Acorn…
Yeah? You see it? I have had waaay too much icecream with chocolate topping this evening…

Step Three: Aha! The Good Bit!
My friend, this is where things start to get interesting. I started off drawing semi squashed circles around the front and then if you squash them even more on the sides it gives this 3D look like the circles are coming out of the acorn.
You could literally just draw in some gothic looking leaves at this point and call it a day… but we shall not stop here. No! We shall next-level our spooky flower creation!

Step Four: The Petals Are Spikes!
Ooh yeah! So fun. I drew spikes instead of petals. All I did was draw them coming out of the circles then erased any lines from the circles that I didn’t want. You could also keep the circles intact and draw spikes coming out from underneath them. That would also look cool.

Step Five: That’s A Stem?
A stem it is!! A funky stem. A stem with pizzazz. With character. With spookiness!
I drew four semi circles under the base of the flower and then added the stem coming out of it.
SWEET UP: I made my stem really short to fit for this tutorial, but making it super long and having this flower as just one arm of a GIGANTIC HALLOWEEN FLOWER OF DOOM would be epic. Please draw that and tag me on Insta @milansmischief. xx

Step Six: Add A Leaf
Super simple step here. Just add a leaf jutting out from the stem 🙂

Step Seven: Add the ‘Beak’
Our spooky flower of gothicness needs to have a mouth. I like to call it ‘the beak’. I drew a C shape onto the top circle, drew another C inside of that and joined them up.

Step Eight: It Has Teeth!
Huzzah! No Halloween Flower would be complete without a gnashing set of teeth!
I was channeling the Almighty Sarlacc from Star Wars.

Step Eight: Embellishments #1
To be honest, by the time we get to this stage of any drawing the basics are done and this becomes play time.
You can do anything here to dress up your flower. I opted for some stripes across the top and a few beads. You could draw in some eyes, more spikes, some spiraling tentacles reaching out to ensnare all that pass by… the choices are endless.

Step Nine: Embellishments #2
I didn’t want the stalk to feel left out, so to add a little bit of extra funkiness I added embellishments here too. A few pustule looking dots and some more stripey bits did the trick.
….and now it’s time to color!!!

UNLEASH THE SPOOKY FLOWER!!!
Voila! Here she is in all her gothic flower glory! You know, one thing I know to be true when coloring is it is best to restrict your color palette to three or four colors max but then use a plethora of lights are darks of those four shades.
It makes your colors stick to a theme and look more cohesive. Give it a try. To make this look like a Halloween flower stick with oranges and black with maybe a bit of green thrown in.
I hope you enjoyed this tute! Let me know if you did in the comments below and don’t forget to share your creations with me on insta! @milansmischief
What’s next? Some more gothic cuteness perhaps?
